One of the key food security goals in the new Martha's Vineyard Climate Action Plan focuses on increasing the amount of regionally grown food we consume on the Vineyard. As part of this effort to establish new trading routes with New England producers, we have begun ordering certified organic beans and grains from the Seneca Grain and Bean Farm in upstate New York. At Seneca they grow beans and grains themselves and also source from other organic producers in the region. These beans and grains are nutrient rich and provide a shelf-stable source of organic, New England-grown food for our community, helping strengthen our island's food security and resiliency.
